Vic: $200 fine for those who leave bins out.
Leaving a bin on the footpath after rubbish collection day comes at a price for residents
of one municipality in Melbourne's inner east.
City of Stonnington residents will be fined $200 if they leave their bins out past
midnight on the day their rubbish is collected.
They will also be fined if they put their bins out on the street before 3pm on the
day before their rubbish is collected.
Councillor JOHN CHANDLER says while the by-law has been in place for some time, no
fines have been issued.
But he says with medium-density development on the rise in the city, serial offenders
will now be fined.
He says bins block local streets, which are often narrow, making it difficult for elderly
people and those with prams and pushers to get past.
The City of Stonnington takes in Prahran, Windsor, South Yarra, Armadale, Malvern,
Malvern East, Glen Iris and Kooyong,
